Currently enrolled UCF freshmen who started in the Summer or Fall semester and meet all stated criteria may apply to the University Honors program during their first Spring semester.

This second year entry gateway to the Burnett Honors College provides an admissions opportunity for students who show exceptional academic ability and intellectual curiosity. Admission to the program is highly competitive. Students will earn the University Honors designation on their diploma and transcript.

Applications open in March for admission that Fall.

Eligibility Requirements

Currently enrolled UCF freshman who started in summer or fall semesters as First Time in College (FTIC)

Minimum cumulative UCF GPA of 3.5 at time of application and end of the spring semester

Submit a nomination from a UCF teaching faculty member.

Application Components

Letter of nomination from a member of UCF teaching faculty that highlights the academic accomplishments and the qualities that make you a good fit for the Burnett Honors College.

 

Letter of recommendation from a member of UCF faculty or staff (resident assistant, academic advisor, research supervisor, registered student organization advisor, etc.).

 

Personal statement which answers the following prompts:

  1. What aspect of the University Honors experience do you expect to be the most transformational for you?
  2. Which specific qualities do you believe you will bring to the Burnett Honors College community?

 

Tentative but detailed plan of study that includes which courses you intend to take to satisfy the requirements of the University Honors program. Second year Honors students are required to complete a minimum of eight honors courses, including Honors Symposium and at least three upper-division courses, one of which must be an interdisciplinary seminar.

Be sure to include what you hope to achieve by taking your selected courses in Honors sections (major requirements, intellectual curiosity, career goals, etc.). Please note that all admitted second year students will be required to enroll in Honors Symposium (IDH 1920H) for their second Fall semester.

 

Your resume is required for the application process.

 

List of no more than ten academic or extracurricular activities and experiences (both prior to and at UCF) in descending order of importance and description of their significance.

 

Supplementary information that highlights anything that is not included in the rest of the application.

 

Admissions

 

Currently enrolled freshmen who started UCF in the immediately preceding fall or summer semesters are eligible to apply for second year entry into the University Honors program in March for fall semester enrollment of the same year in which they are submitting their application.

March

The first step is to complete the online Second Year Entry eligibility form. The application window opens on March 1 and closes on March 31.

Students who meet all eligibility requirements will receive an email with instructions on how to receive the Second Year Entry application form within 1-3 business days of submitting the online eligibility form.

April

The deadline to submit the completed Second Year Entry application (along with all required materials including letter of nomination and letter of recommendation) is April 15.

May

Admissions decisions will be made after Spring grades become available in early May.

In mid to late May, admitted students will be invited to a mandatory University Honors advising session during or after which they will enroll in Honors courses, including Symposium.
