Beatriz Otero Jiménez, PhD is a Postdoctoral Scholar at the Burnett Honors College. Dr. Otero Jiménez received her PhD in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Michigan. Before joining UCF she an NIH-IRACDA postdoctoral Fellow at Stony Brook University. In her research Beatriz explores how human driven changes to the landscape affect biodiversity using GIS and genetic tools to explore this question. Her current research explores how climate and landscape changes affect populations of lemurs, the endemic primates of Madagascar. She has also done research in Mexico, Costa Rica, and Puerto Rico.
Beatriz is also passionate about teaching and outreach. She is trained in community engaged learning principles and inclusive teaching practices. In her free time, she likes to go hiking with her dog Coco.
