Other Credit Earning OpportunitiesStudents who complete one of the following experiences may receive a waiver for an Honors upper-division course or honors interdisciplinary seminar. For all of the following waivers, a student must receive pre-approval from the Director of Honors Advising in BHC 107. Otherwise, the student will not receive the waiver. Each student is eligible for only one (1) waiver. All waivers are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Students who participate in a study abroad program may receive a waiver Please stop by BHC 107 prior to enrolling in the study abroad program for more information.
Nationally Prestigious Programs, like those sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF)
Upon completion of the program, a summary description of the program from both the supervisor and the student is necessary. Prior approval is needed.
If a student completes a pre-approved graduate course, it counts as a waiver of an upper-division Honors course. The grade is not factored into the student?s Honors GPA.
Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) of the National Science Foundation (NSF)
The Burnett Honors College encourages students to participate in undergraduate research programs. The Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program is a paid summer research opportunity where students assist with high level ongoing research. Students majoring in the sciences, math, engineering, and the social sciences should visit the REU website for the listings for REU universities and research programs. Students apply directly to REU Program Sites and should consult the directory of active REU Sites for each site's specific deadlines and requirements. Students must arrange this waiver at the time of notification of acceptance into the REU program. Upon completion of the program, a summary description of the program from both the faculty supervisor and the student is necessary.

IB Scholars Program
Waivers for Upper Division Honors Requirements and/or Honors Interdisciplinary Seminars are available based upon program and length of study. Students MUST meet with the Director of Honors Advising at the time of application to the International Business Scholars Program.
Note: The President's Scholar's program counts as an interdisciplinary seminar and does not count as part of the "1 waiver rule".
