Office of Undergraduate Research Peer Mentor & Student Assistant Position


Overview: The Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR; seeks to hire 2 - 3 student assistants for the 2017-2018 academic year. The primary responsibility of this position is to mentor students on how to get involved in research and the various opportunities available for student researchers. This occurs during set “drop-in” and “appointment” hours in the office. In 2015-2016, over 500 students visited the office during peer mentor drop-in hours to learn more about undergraduate research. Thus, the student assistant serves as a vital resources to their peers. The student assistant will also help with research projects, OUR events, promoting undergraduate research at campus events, works on special projects, and general office tasks.


Qualifications: Undergraduate researchers and graduate students are welcome to apply. Applicants should be proficient in Microsoft Office and have strong organizational, oral, and written communication skills. Applicants are required to have experience with independent undergraduate research at UCF. This position is 15-30 hours per week and must be scheduled Monday through Friday, between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM. The employment start date will begin sometime between May 1 and May 15 (depending on the candidate’s availability). Applicants must be available to work through May 2018. Applicants in all university disciplines with the requisite skills are welcome to apply. Students can be enrolled full or part-time in 2017-2018, or be taking a ‘gap year’ before graduate school.
