Tax Analyst Internship Position Available

Position Purpose

Assist Tax Department in resolving customers’ sales tax concerns and questions to promote greater customer loyalty and improved customer service.

 

Scope

Number of Countries:  1

Number of Locations: CHEP USA / CHEP Recycled entities

 

Major/Key Accountabilities

  • Maintain and apply the technical knowledge and skills required to evaluate and resolve various sales & use tax issues
  • Coordinate with plant locations and other departments to file revenue-based business    licenses
  • Customer set-ups via the workflow system and review customers’ sales tax exemptions   
  • Initiate internal refund requests for sales-tax-related issues for manager approval
  • Initiate funding requests to submit tax payments related to sales & use taxes, personal property taxes, and business licenses for manager/ approval
  • Assists with retrieving data for audits under supervision

  • Number and timeliness of customer accounts reviewed for taxability           
  • Accuracy of applying taxability standards to customers    
  • Increase in customer satisfaction
  • Accuracy of research information provided
  • Accuracy of meeting deadlines

Essential:

Working toward a degree in Accounting or Taxation

 

Desirable:

Accounting/Taxation knowledge/experience

 

Experience

  • 1+ years of experience preparing and reviewing sales & use tax returns, particularly in a multi-state environment (working or school knowledge)
  • 1+ years of experience researching complex tax issues (working or school knowledge)

 

Skills and Knowledge

  • High level of proficiency and familiarity with Excel (higher-level functions such as pivot tables)
  • Ability to correctly interpret complex tax laws and regulations
  • Skilled at determining root cause of customer complaints and providing solutions that satisfy the customer while remaining compliant with state/local regulations
  • Contributes professionally and effectively to team/department during daily operations and special projects
  • Highly analytical and detail-oriented; able to multi-task

 

Languages Essential English; Desirable: Spanish
